Program Fast Facts

  • The residency is a combined civilian and Air Force program associated with the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. 

  • Receiving department status in 1980, WSU is the 4th EM Residency Program in the country

  • 3 year allopathic program accepting 10 Air Force residents and 8 civilian residents per year, making it the largest Air Force EM residency program 

  • 13, 4 week blocks per year including trauma, SICU, MICU, PICU, OBGYN, Ultrasound, ED, peds ED and elective time

  • With 20 full-time faculty, 6 hybrid faculty, and 140+ clinical faculty, all board certified, the teaching is unparalleled

    • Specialized and fellowship trained staff in Ultrasound, Toxicology, Pediatric EM, Critical Care, Aerospace Medicine, EMS/Tactical EM, the teaching experience is unparalleled 

  • WPAFB is home to many of the Air Force's specialized training centers and programs allowing unique collaborative training opportunities for residents

    • Ground Surgical Team & Critical Care Air Transport initial training courses

  • Residents have the opportunity to act as medical control for local agencies through the Division of Tactical Emergency Medicine

  • State of the art simulation center with 2 full time techs, open lab hours, and multi-disciplinary patient scenarios adds to procedural and patient care skills

  • Kettering Health is the official healthcare for the Cincinnati Bengals giving residents opportunities to participate in event medicine
